AugmentAero is an emerging technology designed to enhance the UK Aerospace MRO Engineering sector by integrating augmented reality (AR) with artificial intelligence (AI). Our goal is to make aircraft maintenance safer and more efficient to ensure the sector continues to meet growing demand. The product in development is a pair of AR safety glasses that work with an enterprise software platform. These glasses serve as an interactive assistant for aviation maintenance engineers and technicians, providing them with a direct visual feed of important engineering data and hands-free access to maintenance manuals. By projecting digital information onto physical aircraft parts, the glasses allow for quicker identification and analysis, cutting down on the hours usually spent on such tasks. With AugmentAero, engineers could see their routine workload reduced by up to 50%. Developed in consultation with maintenance professionals and organisations, this tool is designed to streamline complex processes, eliminate unnecessary manual tasks, and enhance overall safety. The software supporting AugmentAero is being developed for the Android platform, utilizing AR-focused tools like Google's AR Core, Unity, and Vuforia to create a seamless and interactive user experience.
