Feasibility Studies
Emm Technology, a UK-based, female-founded health-tech startup, is developing the first smart menstrual cup. This wearable device is designed to help users track their menstrual flow - a key indicator of menstrual and overall health. Data tracked over time can be shared with doctors to improve diagnosis and treatment of, for example, heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) which is widely mis-/underdiagnosed. If left untreated, HMB can lead to severe complications such as anemia, reduced quality of life, and long-term complications. Emm product's unique built-in sensors automatically and precisely measure menstrual fluid volume and track period dates, which are important for understanding if one's periods are heavy or not. Through a connected app, users can monitor their flow volume, cycle frequency, and regularity, as well as symptoms. This project will enable Emm to explore and evaluate the commercial potential of our innovative menstrual cup in the healthcare market. The project is divided into four phases, each designed to explore different aspects of the product's effectiveness and potential for use in healthcare settings, particularly within the NHS.  **Care Pathway Mapping (Patient Perspective)** We will engage with patients and community groups to understand their perceptions of the product and experiences with HMB, exploring how the Emm cup could fit into their lives and care journeys. Through workshops we will identify needs, challenges, and the potential value of additional product features. **Care Pathway Mapping (Clinician Perspective)** This phase focuses on gathering feedback from clinicians within primary and secondary care, and women's health hubs. We will explore clinical fit, added benefit, and potential barriers to adoption / implementation. **App Prototypes for Data Reporting** We will design and test app prototypes for data visualisation to be both user- and clinician-friendly. We will explore what product features could most support clinical acceptance and decision-making when presented by patients. **Assessing Market Fit, Access and Economics** The final phase takes data generated throughout the project and examines the clinical pathway fit, economic impact, regulatory barriers and routes to potential NHS adoption by engaging with key NHS stakeholders and assessing initial health economics benefit. Our overall goal is to make the Emm cup a valuable tool in diagnosing and managing HMB, benefiting both patients and healthcare providers. The goal of this project is to establish the potential of the Emm cup as a product that could be commissioned by the NHS, exploring and building a strategy to be successful.

Collaborative R&D
Emm's mission is to deliver better outcomes in women's health through the development of new technology. We are building a new menstrual product - one that integrates biosensors into a convenient reusable form factor and unlocks actionable insights into a user's reproductive and gynaecological health profile. The product also serves as a platform for research to enable further understanding of menstruation.

Collaborative R&D
Even though more than 2 billion people in the world menstruate, the selection of menstrual products is limited, and the sector has seen very little innovation and advancement. Our smart menstrual product turns a failing consumer hygiene staple into a working digital health product.
