Company description

Phlux Technology develops LIDAR technology.

Phlux offers high sensitivity photodetectors based on AlGaAsSb avalanche photodiode (APD) technologies developed at the University of Sheffield. This offers excess noise performance matching Silicon APDs but at the infrared wavelengths beyond Silicon because AlGaAsSb can be grown lattice matched to InGaAs on InP substrate.

Project impact

To date funding has been secured to develop the commercial prototype.

MARCONI: Modular UK QKD receivers for Quantum Internet

1 Jul 2024 to 31 Dec 2025

Awarded
£226,814
Total cost £324,020

High fidelity, modular and scalable receiver modules are recognised as the enabling technology for entangled based quantum key distribution, which is essential for distributed quantum computing and the transmission of quantum states in quantum internet. To address this need, the MARCONI project will develop and demonstrate two new OEM quantum key distribu...

sCale up of Avalanche Photodiodes for future TerAbIt optical Networks (CAPTAIN)

1 Jun 2024 to 31 May 2025

Awarded
£262,866
Total cost £375,524

Every year, the amount of data transferred across optical fibre networks to people's homes increases, with millions of 10Gb/s Passive Optical Network (10G-PON) units sold every year to support this. However, there is a need to roll out 50G-PON to enable smart factory and digital driven manufacturing, next-generation city traffic management, and 10G smart ...

Addressing Shortages In Semiconductor Skills Training (ASISST)

1 Aug 2023 to 31 Jan 2025

Awarded
£25,064
Total cost £35,806

Skills shortages across the semiconductor industry present challenges to the UK semiconductor industry in myriad ways, ranging from hindering expansion, through reducing competitiveness, to discouraging funding for innovative startups. Although semiconductor theory is covered in most UK Electronic Engineering (EE) or Physics degree courses, most graduates...

Multi AlGaAsSb Pixel Photon Sensor: (MAPPS)

1 Apr 2023 to 31 Mar 2025

Awarded
£697,845
Total cost £996,922

LIDAR (light detection and ranging) is the technique used by modern vehicles to visualise their surroundings in 3D. Early long range LIDAR systems for AVs and advanced-driver-assisted-systems (ADAS) being brought to market in 2022, rely on raster scanning techniques to build an image 1 pixel at a time. These early systems are very bulky, have range limita...

AIR SPAD - AlGaAsSb Infrared Single Photon Avalanche Diodes

1 Oct 2022 to 31 Mar 2024

Awarded
£220,545
Total cost £315,064

To address climate change, attention on greenhouse gases has recently expanded from an overwhelming focus on carbon dioxide to include methane. Methane is the second most important greenhouse gas, because for 20 years after release, it is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Methane is a major constituent of natural gas, which has experienced increas...
