Grant for R&D
Smile is the UK's first mental health app developed for patients and carers managing chronic physical health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or long Covid. People with chronic health conditions are up to three times more likely to develop anxiety or depression, according to The King's Fund. Smile provides affordable, accessible support to improve wellbeing, without GP intervention. The app uses a series of AI-driven questions and mood tracking to understand users' unique needs and create a personalised dashboard of content incorporating: * Psychoeducation - bitesize written, video and audio content * Community - live workshops led by clinical experts * Individual support - 1-2-1s with mental health clinicians specialising in chronic health Our tools help people increase their resilience and develop the coping skills to live well alongside a difficult health diagnosis. "Anxiety and my fear were really high due to my family's health conditions. I came across Smile App and their videos, their tools and their tailored support really helped me to keep it at bay." Jay Dhanjal, beta tester. Smile combines five evidence-based therapies: * cognitive behavioural therapy * self compassion * mindfulness * acceptance and commitment therapy * emotional freedom technique The app has been developed with the support of King's College London and London Southbank University. We also have a team of clinical experts who specialise in supporting the mental health of people managing chronic physical health conditions, and have co-produced the content with patients and carers who have lived experience. The Innovate grant will accelerate the development of the native app so that it can be launched in early 2023\.
