Our project develops a comprehensive educational intervention designed to empower students from underprivileged backgrounds and foster their personal growth and development. It involves the redevelopment and delivery of a ground-breaking program, Exponentially Better, and its companion digital tool, HARK, to facilitate transformative growth in students from low socio-economic backgrounds, aged 13-17\.
Exponentially Better is an innovative and evidence-based intervention developed by a consortium of leading neuroscientists, psychologists, educators, coaches, and behavioural change experts. It leverages cutting-edge research from various fields to create a holistic transformation process that addresses cognitive, emotional, and behavioural dimensions. Its companion application, HARK, is a revolutionary digital tool designed to transform the way users plan and achieve their goals. It guides users through a process of self-discovery, reflection, and strategic planning, leveraging advanced graph data models and AI to provide a personalised experience. HARK helps users acknowledge their fears, define their aspirations, reflect on their past experiences, develop knowledge and strategies, and create an actionable plan towards achieving their goals.
The project involves four main activities:
1. Redeveloping Exponentially Better to create a version specifically designed for students from low socio-economic backgrounds, addressing their unique challenges and needs.
2. Delivering the redeveloped intervention events to 100-150 students from schools in underprivileged areas and underrepresented groups and minorities around the UK for free.
3. Gathering experimental data and feedback from these pilot programs to advance the research and development of the XB intervention and document its positive impact on students from underprivileged backgrounds.
4. Redeveloping key aspects of the HARK tool to increase accessibility by making the goal-setting interface work seamlessly on mobile and in offline environments, enabling students without access to a computer or stable internet connection to benefit from the tool.
Our project aims to address educational inequalities by empowering students from underprivileged backgrounds to transcend limitations, embrace change, and become architects of their own success. By integrating cutting-edge science with pedagogical innovation, we offer a roadmap to unleash the latent potential within each individual, resulting in resilient, motivated, and self-empowered leaders who can navigate life's challenges with unwavering determination.
