Last Yarn is the social marketplace connecting designers, curators and creatives with fashion mills, factories and studio's to circulate deadstock fabric.
Last Yarn will use funding received by UKRI to develop our MetaMoodboard as an extension to our current 'wishlist' feature. The MetaMoodboard uses AI to track textile inventory; store metrics on inventory; and pair designs with inventory. The incorporation of collaborative AI software will aid the design and development process, minimising waste in both sampling and production. Most waste happens in the design stage with a reported that £5 to 7 billion spent on physical sampling in the fashion industry each year. Most of these samples are burned or end up in landfill.
The MetaMoodboard allows our end users to work collaboratively with their teams on the collection building, pairing their designs with existing end of line fabrics from our sellers. By simply uploading their technical drawing, our software will render a digital AI version in 3D. The designer can then select fabrics to be rendered into the design, calculating the garments approximate fabric consumption according to standardised UK garment sizing. This enables designers to make critical changes prior to the sampling phase, helping to design out textile waste.
