Hibi will conduct a technical feasibility study examining the potential of an AI-enabled care navigation platform for families caring for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Behind each SEND child, there is a family working out how to manage, coordinate & navigate their care. Children's care is uniquely fragmented. Parents become their child's care coordinator, navigating a system split across health, education & social care to work out how to get their child the care they need.
It is well established that navigation support for these families improves outcomes and reduces costs, in some studies by over £1,200 per child per year. For SEND families today, accessing support revolves around multi-week waits for telephone call backs and appointments. Alternatively, families turn to social media groups.
At Hibi, it's our mission to make this care navigation support trusted, personalised & scalable. We are developing an AI-enabled care navigation platform for SEND families. Based on a conversational AI built on a vetted library of SEND content, in tandem with human oversight, SEND families will have access to trusted, personalised guidance that would otherwise take weeks or months to get.
We conceptualised and designed this tool with over 150+ families & care professionals. We have held workshops with charities, local authorities, NHS organisations and special needs schools. Over 350 families have registered for early access.
This grant provides the opportunity for a vital next step -- a technical feasibility study examining the potential for this AI-enabled children's care navigation platform. The project would allow the tool to be trialled with SEND families to demonstrate functionality, iteratively improve the product and illustrate the potential for positive care outcome & health economic impact. Our partners to deliver this include Differing Minds, Prova Health & York Health Economic Consortium.
It's our intention that Hibi becomes a platform facilitating broader care navigation. This includes expansion across children's care as well as into adult conditions. In building the first scalable care navigation platform, Hibi will make a significant impact on the supply & demand imbalance across health and social care.
