Collaborative R&D
The **HiLo Decarb** project aims to expand HiLo Maritime Risk Management's data-driven safety platform to accelerate decarbonisation efforts in the global maritime industry. Building on HiLo's proven risk analytics capabilities, the initiative will deliver a comprehensive benchmarking and decision-support module designed for vessel owners, operators, and technology providers to optimise emissions reduction strategies. The project scope includes the **design, development, and deployment** of the HiLo Decarb module. This platform will integrate real-world operational, safety, and emissions data from a diverse fleet of vessels. Using advanced analytics, machine learning, and intuitive data visualisation, it will generate actionable insights to guide investment in decarbonisation technologies, operational changes, and emissions performance optimisation. **Key features will include:** * A **benchmarking tool** to compare emissions reduction outcomes across vessels, technologies, and routes. * A **predictive analytics engine** to simulate the impact of operational and technical interventions. * A **real-time monitoring dashboard** for decision-making and ESG-aligned regulatory reporting. The project will also support external stakeholders such as **classification societies**, by providing anonymised, high-quality performance data to inform the development of type approval and certification frameworks. This will reduce the time-to-market for innovative decarbonisation solutions and enhance trust in their effectiveness. HiLo Decarb will be co-developed in collaboration with 5 of HiLo's existing customers and 2 key partners: **Effortless Technologies**, leading technical architecture and development, and the **University of Southampton**, contributing academic research and expertise in emissions modelling and maritime technology validation. HiLo will lead product strategy and customer engagement to ensure the solution meets market needs. The project will also involve stakeholder workshops, prototype testing, and onboarding planning to ensure technical robustness and commercial relevance. From a technology standpoint, the solution will be built on a secure, cloud-based infrastructure capable of processing large-scale operational and emissions data, with AI/ML models integrated into a user-friendly web interface. By project completion, HiLo Decarb will be a fully operational module within HiLo's product suite, ready for commercial rollout. It will support compliance with global emissions regulations, deliver measurable environmental benefits, and position the UK as a leader in maritime decarbonisation innovation.

Feasibility Studies
Project Magpie aims to revolutionise maritime safety by developing a real-time data platform that predicts and manages risks for shipping operations. Led by HiLo, a trusted provider of risk analytics for over 60 shipping companies, the project addresses the industry's challenges related to inefficiencies, environmental impacts, and safety issues caused by machinery failures and human error. **Objectives:** 1. **Develop a Maritime Data Platform:** Integrate internal and external data sources using advanced machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) to predict and mitigate risks, particularly those associated with new fuels. 2. **Commercialisation Strategy:** Ensure market readiness and adoption through a detailed strategic plan. 3. **Operational Demonstration:** Produce a costed plan to demonstrate the technology in real-world settings. **Key Deliverables:** 1. **Functional Prototype:** Create Magpie, a platform for real-time risk assessment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prevent environmental disasters. 2. **Feasibility Report:** Assess the technical and economic viability of the technology. 3. **Impact Data:** Quantify emissions reductions and economic benefits. 4. **Market and Regulatory Strategy:** Outline strategies for market deployment and compliance. 5. **Knowledge Sharing:** Disseminate information to stakeholders, including the Department for Transport and Innovate UK.
