InclusivAI: Fostering Equitable AI Systems through Engaged, Educated Crowdsourcing InclusivAI is an ambitious project aiming to revolutionise the auditing of artificial intelligence (AI) systems by incorporating regular citizens in the process of identifying and rectifying biases. This innovative approach utilises an "educated crowd"-based system for AI bias auditing, rendering AI systems more inclusive, equitable, and beneficial for society at large. The project comprises five key components: 1 - Interactive Workshops: InclusivAI will offer interactive film-based educational workshops to demystify AI and illuminate the issue of bias in AI systems for non-technical people. These workshops, available to both corporations and schools, will cultivate a broad understanding of AI and empower participants to make informed judgments on potential biases. 2 - Bias Reporting Platform: After completing the workshop, participants can access a user-friendly tool to report instances of AI bias they encounter with accompanying evidence such as screenshots and URLs. Potentially, users will receive financial rewards similar to bug reporting bounties. This fosters constructive dialogue between users and companies, encouraging the resolution of bias-related challenges. 3 - InclusivAI Kitemark: To display their commitment to addressing AI bias, companies can obtain a paid InclusivAI kitemark and link for their websites. This kitemark enables users to easily report biases directly from the InclusivAI site, potentially for a fee. 4 - 30 Pilot Workshops: 30 Interactive Workshops will be held during the funded period of the project, focussed on students 18+ in the UK. 5 - Inclusivator Cohort: Powered by the pilot workschops, InclusivAI will develop a cohort of trained UK users, known as "Inclusivators," many from marginalised communities, who are compensated by companies to confidentially test AI systems. Their diverse perspectives will aid in identifying biases that may otherwise remain undetected. InclusivAI's groundbreaking proposal takes bias detection beyond the confines of high-tech laboratories and brings it into the public sphere. This inclusive approach to bias detection will help ensure that AI systems are accountable to all UK citizens, not solely technical experts. InclusivAI has the potential to become an integral component of the UK's mission to establish an AI ecosystem that serves the needs of everyone, promoting an equitable and thriving digital landscape.
