An estimated 12,000 temporary portable buildings are in use at any given time in the UK, serving as staff offices and welfare facilities across various industries, including construction, film production, and events. Many of these buildings rely on small diesel generators to supply electrical power for heating, lighting, and equipment.
In this project, Carmarthenshire-based Systemau Injan PlusZero Cyf will develop a small hydrogen internal combustion engine (HICE) generator. This innovative generator will be optimized to provide an efficient, carbon-free, and pollution-free alternative to the diesel generators typically installed in portable buildings.
The project is supported by one of the UK's leading providers of portable buildings and temporary power solutions. They are providing access to a portable building manufactured in South Wales for testing purposes.
