The 3 classes of Vehicle tyre health are an enigma to most vehicle owners, so it is not surprising that 23% of all MOT failures in the UK are caused by defective tyres. Even though vehicle safety is highly regulated in the UK, a survey by Confused.com suggests that, at any given time, around 2.5 million vehicles on our roads have serious tyre defects. UK Government data says this results in a staggering 1,500+ serious injuries and deaths annually. Parked end to-end, these vehicles would stretch from London to South Africa. This issue is important today but as we move into an era of autonomous mobility where drivers may no longer have the responsibility to check road worthiness, this issue is set to get worse. We are looking to solve this problem by developing a way to accurately predict and monitor, in real time, tyre health for signs of tread-wear, punctures and safety flags. Allowing us to alert a driver to a maintenance event, or accurately plan replacement for the tyres end of life. Our innovation will produce an inexpensive device that will be commercially viable to monitor all 3 classes of tyre health on a vehicle. This is far more advanced than existing on vehicle technology of today, combining capabilities that are currently only possible with static commercial equipment fitted into the roadway which cost more than £30,000\.
