Two Raccoons have been making wine from fruits that would have otherwise gone to waste. Since 2021, we have rescued tonnes of fruits from being wasted, and made 7 flavours of fruit wines, including banana, mango, blackcurrant and raspberry. Since our first partnership with Baxters, we have greatly expanded our fruit supplier network and have found hotspots of surplus fruits across the UK and Europe, with upwards of 50 tonnes of fruits being wasted every week in certain locations.
With the Next Steps award, we will conduct research and development to create liqueurs and other products in order to rescue greater amounts of surplus ingredients. With bananas being the most wasted fruit in the UK and worldwide, we will be investigating ways of repurposing and valorising this fruit throughout the Next Steps award, before expanding to other types of surplus ingredients in the future.
Two Raccoons aim to become the first fully circular food and drinks producer in the world. We aim to repurpose our own waste materials to create new products like plant fertilisers while extracting valuable compounds through valorisation. We want to show that sustainability and financial viability can be bridged.
