The aim of the project is to minimise the upcoming decommissioning bill for the tax payer and platform operators in Uk waters. Our main focus is on the highest cost share driven by the total integrated P&A costs. There is also a great opportunity in reducing the overall CO2 emissions by implementing an innovative technical solution instead of deploying overrated distressed drilling or workover units.
We have identified a technical solution for P&A which finally focuses on the operator demand to deploy the right tool depending on the well and platform requirements. This modular multi-operational system is capable to be assembled in a basic setup to meet low well category requirements while it has the option to be upgraded if higher well categories are present. One of the biggest differentiator is its large operational envelope to existing workover solutions as it can serve all P&A campaign phases with the additional advantage of continuously recovering the old completion from the well without any breaks for connections. The system is light & compact as a workover unit while it has the operational flexibility of a drilling rig optimised to the most important P&A benchmarks such as the hoisting speed or handling of downhole tools.
The feasibility study focuses on the commercial, technical and operational viability of the innovative disruptive technical solution. Main scope is the development of a basic design in a 3D software to support its technical feasibility. Afterwards, the 3D illustration will be converted to an animation for proving its operational capabilities, especially dealing with all necessary events in a P&A campaign from wireline jobs to completion recovery. This operability is transformed to the most critical benchmarks for a P&A job and compared to existing systems in an intensive commercial analysis by a P&A execution simulation tool. This tool proves operational capabilities, the comparative costs and emission savings in various setups, taking into account all aspects of P&A . The scope is to achieve a technical readiness level for the build of a demonstrator that will be deployed in a pilot project.
